Seeing Something Different…
Where most see conflict as a problem, we at the Kroc School of Peace Studies consider it to be a natural outcome of human diversity. In our Master of Science in Conflict Management and Resolution(MS-CMR) we teach students to manage, resolve and transform conflict in order to foster positive change. This new program is designed for professionals from all backgrounds who work with people, groups, organizations or even states in conflict. The program prepares professionals to prevent, respond to, and mitigate conflict using dynamic, interactive methods.
In the MS-CMR, you will learn how to anticipate conflicts, engage actors and resolve complex issues in different situations. Using data and analytics, you will diagnose and interpret what drives conflicts. You will hone practical skills like mediation, intercultural communication and facilitation. After nine months of coursework, you will graduate ready to effectively integrate these skills into your own sector or industry.
Rare Opportunity at the Kroc SchoolAs the only peace school in the United States, the Kroc School of Peace Studies at the University of San Diego offers new approaches to conflict. Theoretical foundations combine with interdisciplinary skill-building, developing professionals who can manage and resolve conflict. Students can specialize their conflict degree with practice-based electives such as women’s empowerment and economic development.
Completing your degree with the Kroc School means that your teachers are also practitioners like Dr. Ami Carpenter who uses her expertise to build bridges in San Diego and abroad. Kroc School faculty come from professional backgrounds like the World Bank, the United Nations, Human Rights Watch and the State Department. Students will join faculty in mediating disputes in the community, or facilitating group dialogues on campus, building skills through hands-on experience.
Reframe Conflict in Your WorkWhether you work in healthcare, public service, security, tech, entrepreneurship, foundations or education, with a degree in Conflict Management and Resolution from the Kroc School, you will develop the competencies needed to create positive change. The Kroc School provides career development programming, networking events, career design activities and speakers so that you are prepared to elevate your current career, or to launch yourself into a new one.
