FARMING REALLY MATTERS

June 2017

Food and the climate crisis

Dear reader,
Here is the latest, and the last, issue of Farming Matters titled ‘Food and the climate crisis’. The articles presented here address the intersection of agroecology, food sovereignty and the climate crisis.
With contributions from GRAIN, Michel Pimbert, Miguel Altieri, and Shalmali Guttal, this issue highlights the need for systemic change to the way food is produced, processed and distributed as an important step in tackling the climate crisis. Besides arguing for such change, we present some possibilities and heartening progress in this direction. Our stories take you from Haiti, where peasants are simultaneously building a social movement and regenerating natural resources, to the Philippines, where farmers and fishers are at the frontline of struggles for climate justice.
